Why not use tracking numbers for package ID?
We have put a lot of time and thought into the tracking number
barcode question. While it is true that most inbound UPS packages
have barcodes that contain just the package tracking number, this is
not the case for many, if not most packages. FedEx, DHL,
Messengers, even some USPS and UPS package barcodes contain all
sorts of leading or trailing numbers, letters and codes embedded in
their barcodes.
Extra digits, So what?
These extra digits can cause customer confusion as to which package
belongs to which 20 digit long string of characters. This is why we
developed this unique package entry process. Each of our inbound
packages is assigned its own unique numbered barcode that is clear
and easy to understand. These barcodes are both on the package slip
(that goes into the customers mailbox) and on the package itself.
You and the customer can easily look at the two numbers (with or
without a barcode reader) and see if they match.
I use this program pretty often at my location. Sometimes I’ll end up scanning over 10 packages at once (using multi) however at times one of my box holder will get multiple boxes.
When it comes time to print the sticker labels for these boxes, it sometimes becomes a chore to have to determine which sticker goes on which specific box if one box number has multiple packages(since each barcode is linked to the original package’s tracking number)
There is no information on the sticker label other than box number, name, and date so I would constantly have to match that with the signature slip to see which box to place these stickers.
This is usually easy if , lets say, they have 2 packages and one is a pak and the other is a box. However if they are both boxes, or if there are even MORE boxes above those, the sticker label doesn’t tell me which box it belongs to.
Hope this makes sense.
I suppose what you are asking me is :
“can we make the Notes 2/tracking Field show up on the Package tag?”
The answer is: “Sure, Why not?”
I just added that field, in small text, to the bottom of the package tag.
Thanks for the suggestion! I nope that helps.
